Shutter Solutions For An Amazing New Build Home In Winchester

Our client purchased a large, brand new home in Winchester. From survey to order we installed the shutters and corresponding blinds within 8 weeks. The brief we received from the client was to make the most of their large windows but that they also require blackout for the daughter’s bedroom and cinema room.

We surveyed the house on the day we received the initial call from the client. The client wanted to have the ability to fold their shutters flat against the wall either side of their windows. On surveying we found that if wanted to mirror the glazing strips on the windows, we would need to make the panels different sizes so that they lined up perfectly with the glazing bars.

Each window was individually measured to the mm as the plastering on the reveals meant that the glazing strip were in different locations by 5mm. We also chose a bullnose Z frame which allowed us to create a 15mm architrave around the windows reveals and this also ensure that there was no need to trim the shutters as any running out of the plastered window reveal was hidden behind the 15mm lip. The client chose our Winchester Range of hardwood shutters throughout the home.

For the cinema room the client wanted shutters as well, as they wanted the front of the house to look uniform. Although shutters do provide great blackout there is always a faint glow between the louvers. Although we offer a blackout shutter with integrated blackout blind the client wanted an automated solution. We installed remote control roller blinds behind the shutters and to stop light bleed around the edge of this we also fitted aluminium channels to the window reveal with brushes down which the roller blinds moved. We applied the same system in the daughter’s bedroom. By ensuring the head rail of the rollers was small they were not visible from outside or from inside through the louvers when the remote control blind was in the up position.

For the kitchen, which was at the back of the house, we went with a light filtering duette blind from Luxaflex. These blinds are ideal as when up as they concertina into a very small head rail and when down the create a lovely glow over the window. These blinds come in a large range of colours and opacity. The beauty is that you have a colour to the inside and a white to the outside so that the home looks uniform from the outside.

The client also had an additional den above the garage which was used for gaming and here the client had a porthole window amongst others which we covered with a circular shutter. The circular shutters panel is mounted on magnets and so allows the shutter to be removed to open the window or clean the glass. The client can choose whether the have horizontal louvers or a radiating sunburst design.
