Unlike many others we take production measurements during your home design consultation. No salespeople – just good, honest, advice.
Our consultants will bring product samples, large demonstration panels, colour swatches as well a tablet showing a large variety of our shutter installations to help you visualise your proposed shutter installation.

Portsmouth has a huge number of period properties with bay windows and the issue for most is the same in that they tend to be street facing. Our client’s lounge and bedroom both had suffered from lacking privacy both at street level but also from the houses across the road. The Great Shutter Co. installed bay window shutters that solved this issue by adding a control split that allowed the top and bottom louvers to be controlled independently. Bay windows are a perfect match for plantation shutters as the shutters make the most of the space by following the natural lines of the bay window. We hope you agree they add that finishing touch.
When you have dual aspect windows your room can often overheat and that was the case for our client. They also had privacy issues as their windows were full height, floor to ceiling windows and passers-by could easily see into the house at ground level. They wanted a solution that suited the room and was practical and easy to use and maintain. The Great Shutter Co. fitted these amazing plantation shutters to edge of their window reveals and this also allowed the customers to the fold the shutters flat against the wall. Mix in large louvers and a light coloured paint and you really maximise the light in the room.
Bathroom windows are always a little tricky. You need privacy when the bathroom window is open and you need a product that stands up to water or condensation. Our waterproof shutters can be placed in direct contact with water and for our client this meant they could place their bath next to the window. The waterproof shutters are made from a composite ABS and combined with marine grade stainless steel hardware to ensure that you have a product that will stand the test of time.

The lovely testimonial above from Mrs Barnes was for a number of shutters we installed for at her lovely flat in Gunwharf Quays. Amongst those was a tracked shutter which was ideal for her sliding balcony doors in her kitchen. They provide a great level of privacy and let her control the amount of light and heat in her kitchen, but also allowed her to bifold the shutters out of the way totally. And because we use a low profile track there is no trip hazard.
One of the great things about shutters is that you can operate the top half and the bottom half of the louvered panels independently (hey – you can have 4 different operating sections and more per panel if you fancy it). In some cases where you have this split you will want a mid-rail and this is normally used on sash windows where you already have a natural break in the glass of the window. With casement windows which tend to be fully glazed you would use a hidden split. Here we simply put a split in the mechanism of the louvers without putting a physical rail (as pictured) into the shutters.
